Former Olympian all set for Belfast
Michael Conlan (6-0,5KO’s) will be in the ring on May 12th in the undercard of Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jorge Linares Championship bout. He will be facing Ibon Larrinaga (10-1,2KO’s) and is not expected to meet much resistance which is why he has a June 30th date already booked.
It’s a special date for him as he will be fighting in front of his home crowd. The bout will take place in Belfast, Northern Ireland at the Odyssey Arena. Conlan has been fighting primarily out of New York and has quite the following, since NYC has a strong Irish population. Who he will face was a mystery however, that is until today.
His opponent will be Adelison Dos Santos (19-4,15KO’s) who is now campaigning at the featherweight division. Dos Santos biggest step up was when he fought Jessie Magdaleno in a bout that resulted in a second round knockout loss.
It’s the type of opponent that should make Conlan look good in his homecoming. It will be a special night for the young man and hopefully he will make it even more special with a good ending.
Dos Santos could be Conlan’s toughest challenge to date but the Irishman will look to shine in front of the home crowd, seize the day. He will need to remain focused however, as he must not get caught up in the moment.
Conlan at age 26 will more than likely be put on the fast track and should see the quality of his opponents go up in the near future. June 30th Belfast’s son will be coming home.
