Joe Cordina: “I can beat JoJo Diaz, Herring and Berchelt!”
Rising super featherweight prospect Joe Cordina (11-0, 7KOs) is eager to get back into the ring and continue his rise up the rankings into title contention.
Speaking with his promoter Eddie Hearn live on Instagram, Cordina made it clear where he stands in how he feels he stacks up against the junior lightweight champions.
“I believe I can beat JoJo Diaz, even Berchelt, he’s the one in the division that you look at it and be like ‘okay, I might need a couple more world level fights’.
“Then we take him on after that once we get the experience, but I believe I can beat Jamel Herring. All the world champions in the super featherweight division.
“I think I’m ready now, I’ve sparred world class opposition all my life. Even when I was an amateur, when they came to spar us, I sparred hundreds of rounds with Luke Campbell.”
Currently ranked number 9 and 11 in the IBF and WBA rankings respectively, Cordina will need to step up his competition in order to reach world title status.
Once boxing resumes, it’s expected that he could return either in June, July or August according to promoter Eddie Hearn.
The Welsh fighter is one to keep an eye out on among the younger crop of upcoming fighters coming from across the pond.
