Andres Cortes Decisions Mark Magsayo; Targets Valenzuela
In his second bout of the year, lightweight fighter Andres Cortes (26-0, 13 KO’s) defeated veteran boxer Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo (29-3, 19 KO’s) by unanimous decision. When the cards were revealed, Cortes won on all three judges ledgers to the tune 97-93. This was a very solid win for the Las Vegas native. He entered the duel with the standings of #11 WBC, #12 WBA and #13 WBO.
During his post-fight interview, Cortes was questioned about what direction he would move in next. When presented with the prompt, the talented lightweight boxer expressed his interest in dancing with Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela. Valenzuela was last in action this past June 28, when he clipped and stopped Edwin De Los Santos by a thrilling second round knockout. The win over Santos was just his second consecutive victory after losing to Gary Antuanne Russell on March 1, 2025.
It will be interesting to see if the teams can get their heads together and hammer out a satisfactory deal. For the time being, however, we will just have to wait and see what is next of Andres Cortes following this well-earned win.
