Will Terence Crawford completely outclass Amir Khan?

WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford is the heavy favorite against Amir Khan and most assume he will win by knockout! However, Crawford’s own words imply he isn’t leaning on his punching power to win this fight.

“I believe in my skills and I don’t believe it is my punching power that will lead me to victory.” Terence Crawford – WBO Welterweight Champion

Crawford, who is a highly skilled fighter, is facing a fighter in Khan who is highly skilled as well. The challenger has never been completely out-boxed over the course of a fight. In addition, he is undefeated at welterweight.

His problems have always come from fighters with real punching power. Think opponents like Danny Garcia and Canelo Alvarez. Although he would lose these fights by knockout, many pundits felt he was winning both bouts prior to the stoppages.

The only loss where he was dominated throughout (although the sample size is small) was his first career and first round defeat to Briedis Prescott. Ironically, Prescott would be the man to put Crawford on the radar of many pundits in 2013.

Since Crawford is recognized as one of the smartest in the sport, he should have the advantage in a “chess-match” pace of a fight. Moreover, if he is able to out-box the challenger and knock him out, it will be a testament to how great Crawford really is.
