Terence Crawford hoping for a speedy recovery for Errol Spence Jr.
For most of the boxing world, October 10 began with the distressful news that WBC and IBF world welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (26-0, 21 KO’s) was involved in a serious car accident.
The only real details available were the fact that his injuries were not life threatening, but Spence was in ICU. Along with this scant information was the chilling pictures of the champions mangled white Ferrari. Naturally, it was easy to assume the worst.
As boxing fans, it goes without saying that we selfishly want Spence to be able to perform again. However, at times like this, it’s more important to hope that the Truth remains upright and retains all his faculties and senses.
There has already been a huge wave of support extended to Errol Spence and his family from boxing fans, insiders and fellow fighters. One such person was none other than his chief divisional rival WBO world welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (35-0, 26 KO’s).
The fans have pushed for these two to knuckle-up in the ring for well over a year now. It’s largely believed that they are the two best in the division and represent the greatest threat for the other. Thus far, frustrating politics have gummed of the gears of production when it comes to finalizing this bout.
Over the course of the past year, their collective fan base have bitterly bickered with the opposing faction with heated venom. Clearly, Crawford saw that this situation was way bigger than petty squabbling.
In a succinct Instagram post, Crawford extends his prayers and remains optimistic by saying Spence will bounce back from this unforeseen tragedy. The sentiments are attached to tasteful picture of a beaming Errol Spence in the ring. Although seemingly small, the gesture goes a long way to highlighting the compassion that these fighters hold for one another.
While there is a rumor surfacing that the unified champion is OK, 3kingsboxing would still like to send our thoughts and prayers to Errol Spence, Team Spence and family as a whole until official confirmation on an “OK” status is made.
Get well champ! And to his family, friends and direct supporters stay strong!
