Benavidez Should Make Easy Work Of Yarde
WBC light heavyweight champion David “The Monster” Benavidez will defend the title against two-time title challenger Anthony Yarde. Saudi Arabia’s erpower play, Turki Alalshikh, created a huge buzz on social media with the news.
Boxing fans were probably expecting to see The Monster take on Callum Smith. Matchroom Boxing’s chairman, Eddie Hearn, told media outlets that a fight between Smith and Benavidez was being discussed. It appears that things didn’t go well during the negotiations, which opened the door for Yarde.
In this author’s opinion, this is going to be an easy title defense for Benavidez. Yarde is coming off a lackluster performance in a trilogy against rival Lyndon Arthur. Several boxing pundits consider the British fighter a gatekeeper at this point in his career.
The two-time title challenger’s aggressive come-forward style is tailor-made for Benavidez, who loves attacking the body. Plus, the Arizona native has a gas tank that never hits empty, unlike Yarde, who has stamina issues.
This is going to be Yarde’s third attempt at trying to win a title. However, it won’t be a charm as this author is picking Benavidez for the stoppage.
