40 Days: Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz

In order to whet the appetite of the boxing public, DAZN has released the first episode of ‘40 Days: Joshua v Ruiz Jr’ via YouTube. The short ten minute piece was very similar to HBO’s 24/7 and Showtime’s All Access series. Even though the segment was rather brief, it was of high quality and had a very polished look.

While fun to watch, the episode supplied little new information. In fact, avid fans, or even casual, of AJ probably will gain zero new information after tuning in. The truncated episode briefly illustrated his new opponent, Andy Ruiz Jr., and why there was a need to supply a substitute opponent in the first place.

The viewing audience also received a tour of his new American training facilities located in South Beach in Miami, Florida. During this portion, Joshua explained that it was of the utmost importance to travel to this new land well before the actual fight in order to acclimate his body to the new time zone.

Outside of Joshua’s training, a significant portion of the program highlighted AJ speaking with the US based rapper Meek Mill. This was a rather savvy move. Despite being a megastar in his native UK homeland, AJ is still a rather unknown commodity here in the states. This being the case, it was no doubt a strategic move to bring in Meek, who is an outrageously popular artists here in America.

We will have to wait and see if this diplomatic move helps ticket sales!

It will be interesting to see whether any future installments will include any meaningful information about Andy Ruiz Jr. This time around the block, the audience only glimpsed a couple visual flashes of Ruiz Jr’s in-ring highlights.
