David Benavidez is the next to make a hometown title defense!

Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) has announced that undefeated David Benavidez (22-0, 19 KOs) will return to the ring on April 18. He will defend the WBC World Super Middleweight title against Roamer Alexis Angulo (26-1, 22 KOs) in Phoenix, Arizona. It will be Benavidez’s first defense during his second reign as WBC world 168-pound champion.

This will be a homecoming fight for the 23-year-old champion. For the kid known as “El Bandera Roja”, he’s pumped up about defending the world title on home turf.

“I’m very excited to be fighting Angulo on SHOWTIME and in front of my hometown crowd. I haven’t fought in Phoenix in five years.

“It’s exciting to be back. I expect Angulo to come in ready.”

“I know he just pulled an upset in his last fight and he’s not taking any shortcuts, but neither am I. Angulo has never been stopped, so I want to be the first person to stop him.

“I feel like I’m more motivated with a hungry fighter like him in front of me, and you will see it in my performance.”

David Benavidez – WBC Super Middleweight Champion

For the challenger, this is his second go at a world title. In June of 2018, the 35-year-old from El Bordo, Colombia lost a clear-cut decision to then-WBO world Super Middleweight champion Gilberto Ramirez. Angulo is coming off of an upset win over then-unbeaten Anthony Sims in his last outing. Now, he is looking to pull off what would be considered an upset.

“I’m very motivated by this great opportunity to fight for the world title again. Benavidez is a talented world champion who is clearly one of the best super middleweights in the world.

“This is going to be a great fight for the fans because of the style I bring to the ring. My Mexican style of fighting will be too much for Benavidez and I will have my hand raised on April 18.”

Roamer Alexis Angulo – WBC #18 Ranked Contender

Hope springs eternal for Angulo, as he is durable but can also punch. However, an early look at this fight suggests this bout is little more than an opportunity for the champion to showcase his ability in front of what will surely be an adoring hometown crowd.

Benavidez – Angulo will air live on Showtime.
