Oscar De La Hoya tells Eddie Hearn to mind his own business!
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya sent out a blistering, now-deleted tweet in the direction of Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing. In the tweet, the former six division champion told Hearn to focus less on him and more on the Andy Ruiz vs Anthony Joshua rematch.
It is common knowledge that both men and their promotional companies are under the umbrella of DAZN. Each is accustomed to working hand in hand with networks in their respective countries.
Although, never have they had to work so closely with each other. So, why the animosity from De La Hoya towards Hearn?
Perhaps it’s the pressure he’s feeling from DAZN, who has a huge investment in his top fighter, Canelo Alvarez.
By all accounts, Alvarez vs Golovkin 3 was pretty much a lock for September 14, Mexican Independence Day. However, word is going around that Alvarez is seeking to forgo the rubber match in favor a bout with WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev.
Pressure at DAZN
De La Hoya isn’t the only one feeling the pressure over at DAZN. Hearn himself is scrambling to produce now that his cash cow, Anthony Joshua is no longer the unified heavyweight champion.
On June 1, Ruiz pulled off a major upset when he stopped Joshua in seven rounds. Hearn was the first major boxing promoter to take his fighters over to DAZN on an investment of $1 Billion dollars over the course of 8 years.
So, him speaking on De La Hoya and the hold up on the rubber match could be taken as he needs this fight to be made just as bad as the Golden Boy CEO does.
DAZN is also feeling the pressure, and hopes both representatives can hammer out a deal. Subscriptions are needed for them to feel “at ease” about their huge investment.
It’s also known that DAZN sold some assets in April. It seems that all parties involved are feeling the pressure in one way or another.
