Stephen Fulton Talks Arnold Khegai and Pedigree!

On January 25, 2020 IBO world super bantamweight champion Stephen “Cool Boy” Fulton (17-0, 8 KO’s), will make the first defense of his title. In the first of his two bouts in 2019, Fulton snatched the belt away from Paulus “The Rock” Ambunda (27-3, 11 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision.

Cool Boy followed that performance with a sixth round knockout win over then undefeated featherweight Issac “Canelito” Avelar (16-1, 10 KO’s). Now, in the belly of the Barclays Center, Brooklyn’s personal rumble factory, he will face another undefeated Ukrainian boxer Arnold “Arni” Khegai (16-0-1, 10 KO’s).

Although he is not looking passed his next opponent, Fulton is certainly not sweating him either.

PAR FOR THE COURSE

Despite only having 17 professional fights on his ledger, Fulton has become very accustomed to tangling with undefeated boxers. Khegai will mark his seventh.

Used to fighting unconquered foes and breaking their will, he can’t see why it would be any different with Arni. Fulton understands that he must remain mindful, but there is no sector of the match-up where he feels he doesn’t measure up.

“Another undefeated fighter who seems to haven’t learned from the other undefeateds that I’ve fought. But, he seems like a tough customer, tough veteran, not even a veteran but a tough opponent.

“Seems like he’s a little strong, at least he is compared to the fighters that he had fought. Not to me. He will not be strong.

He’s not as smart as me, he’s not as skillful as me, he hasn’t fought anyone like me. That’s as much as I can say about him.

PREPARATION

Outside of self-belief, Fulton is happy with the preparation that has gone into his upcoming showdown. In interview with Fight Hype, Cool Boy revealed that he has been in camp since he began helping Carl Frampton get ready for his recent bout with Tyler McCreary.

“I’ve been in camp with Carl Frampton getting him prepared for his last fight. I’ve been in camp since.

“That’s not the first time. We always spar. I helped him for the Donaire fight. I went out there for three weeks in Manchester at the UK, helped him for that fight and I helped him with this one leading up to the Tyler McCrery bout.

“So it’s not the first time. We done sparred probably about over 30 times probably.”
