Oscar De La Hoya Pumps the Brakes on Ryan Garcia!

Polarizing junior welterweight fighter “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KO’s) is gearing up to restart his career. Rather than a traditional professional boxing match however, King Ry will return in an exhibition match versus Rukiya Anpo on December 30. At least that is the plan. Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya, of Golden Boy Promotions, has different ideas.

Despite Garcia completing his first official media obligation, De La Hoya took to his social media to reassert his dominant position in the proceedings. Currently it is unknown if De La Hoya is merely flexing or has real demands that must be satisfied. Considering De La Hoya has already sued Garcia for breach of contract, there is no reason to believe that he will not cancel King Ry’s Christmas plans.

WE GOT A FIGHT?!

Provided the fight actually takes place, it will be interesting to see how Garcia handles himself. This will be the closest to professional pugilism with ranked competition King Ry will face since fighting Devin Hany. In the aftermath of that April 20 duel, Garcia was fined, suspended and later sued by Haney for an Ostarine PED violation. In the build-up to that fight, and ever since, Ryan Garcia has given every indication that he has adopted a rockstar life complete with considerable smoking and drinking. Ideally, Anpo will provide enough resistance to answer some questions about the maverick athlete.

Assuming there are no mishaps on December 30, it will be interesting to see who Garcia faces next. According to him, King Ry is aching to fight everyone from Gervonta “Tank” Davis to Terence Crawford. Time will tell if his popularity has weathered his time away and litany of crass and distasteful episodes he’s guilty of.

Before we see Garcia dance with Anpo though, first De La Hoya will have to be dealt with. If he so chooses, De La Hoya could douse King Ry’s plans in a golden shower by not playing ball. So, let’s wait for the thrilling conclusion!
