Shakur Stevenson Ready To Supply Schofield A Boxing Lesson

Well it appears that all the campaigning that lightweight fighter Floyd Schofield Jr. (18-0, 12 KO’s) and his father have done is paying off. At the present moment, given their current back and forth on social media, all impressions imply that Schofield is going to face WBC lightweight champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KO’s) next.

Stevenson, 27, was previously looking to dance with Golden Boy Promotions hot-ticket fighter William Zepeda. That was before Zepeda withdrew from the contest after stating he had suffered an injury. Seeing that he was in need of a new dance partner, Team Schofield quickly and publicly stepped up. So far, it appears that they will get the date.

IS THE GLITTER GOLD??

Schofield and crew have been talking up a storm trying to get a top tier opponent for quite some time. Yet, out of the pack, Stevenson is one of the fighters that they have called for the longest and loudest. There is no doubt that Stevenson will represent a steep elevation in competition level for Schofield who is currently ranked #2 (WBA), #7 (WBO) and #12 (IBF). While he is certainly skilled and shows promise, Schofield still has to prove that he is the goods under the hot lights.

His detractors will tell you that Schofield, 22, is far too green for this would-be battle. Along these lines, it is true that Schofield can get bored in fights and revert to needless brawling. Also, leading with his head has been repeatedly problematic. Even worse than this, when in tough situations, Schofield has demonstrated that he has no problem ignoring the instructions of his corner.

THE AUDITION IS OVER!

In the end though, that’s why they fight the fights! Schofield is young and inexperienced at the top level. However, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t belong or can’t hang if given his shot. So first, let’s see if the fight is ever officially announced. If it is, then just maybe Schofield can shake up the world. Or perhaps Stevenson will demonstrate why it’s so hard to beat the house.
