Demetrius Andrade says Billy Joe Saunders is a constant no-show risk
Recently, UK wild man and WBO world super middleweight champion “Superb” Billy Joe Saunders (29-0, 14KO’s) managed to surprise fans all over the globe when he backed out of his would-be fight with WBA super world middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (53-1-2, 36KO’s).
The unpredictable southpaw presented a number of rationales ranging from pay, his family’s health and the ability to properly prepare for the event as for why he was not comfortable participating. The announcement was stunning to many. However, it was nothing but the same old song for WBO world middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (29-0, 18KO’s)
SEEN AND DONE IT BEFORE!
While speaking to iFL TV, Andrade explained how this type of upheaval was just another instance of Saunders being Saunders.
Andrade had personally been burned by Superb twice in the not so distant past. So upon learning that his slippery would-be foe pulled a disappearing act on Canelo, he was far from flabbergasted. And once again, Boo Boo was disappointed with his reasoning for pulling out.
“I think his grandpa or his grandparents, his relatives, is really disappointed in using his excuse as his grandparents not to be ready to get in the ring with the opportunity to fight Canelo; somebody that is known for being one of the most popular fighters, claim to be one of the pound for pound fighters. So yeah, that is a disappointing thing.
“He is not new to this stuff! He did it with me twice and he is doing it now with Canelo where he shows all the time that he really doesn’t want to fight the greater fights. It seems like to me he is always coming up with an excuse. Now all the sudden he using my name to like stray away from the Canelo situation.”
IF IT LOOKS AND QUACKS…
At this point, Andrade perceives that this type of behavior will be chronic. Therefore, he believes that anyone dealing with Superb will have to assume the inherent risk that he’ll flake out.
“I don’t know, because to me he’s a clown! He doesn’t show up, he’s a risk! I’m going to sit there and we going to put a contract together and do all the things we got to do to make it happen and then he is a no show.”
“It’s happened with me before with him and it’s happening again with him. He is always in that situation. But if you ask me, if I would fight the top guys in the division or fight Billy Joe Saunders, yeah I would have no problem doing that, but he just comes with the risk as far as not showing.”
It should be fun to hear how Saunders responds to Andrade’s sentiments.
