Devin Haney Says JoJo Diaz Not Serious About Fighting
When last in the ring, former IBF junior lightweight champion Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz (32-1-1, 15 KO’s) defeated Javier Fortuna as he made the move to the lightweight division. It was Diaz’ first fight at the weight and the two were battling for the interim WBC title. The winner, would then be the formal mandatory challenger for WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (26-0, 15 KO’s).
Following his win over Fortuna, however, Diaz called out a number of people. Sure, Haney was one of them but it made folks wonder if he was actually focused on facing the Dream next.
It would not be the first time Haney was placed in this predicament. A few months prior, Ryan “KingRy” Garcia defeated Luke Campbell in the same WBC title eliminator. The logical goal was to then face Haney. Instead of accepting a showdown with the champ, Garcia publicly stated he wasn’t impressed with Haney’s professional resume. With that being the case, he opted to go in another direction. Ultimately for a number of haphazard reasons, Garcia has not competed since his fight with Campbell.
WHAT’S IT GOING TO BE?
Now in a recent interview with Fight Hype, the WBC champion seems unsure about Diaz’ true intentions.
“JoJo Diaz is lagging! He is not really showing that he really wants the fight. He says stuff to the media but in reality it hasn’t really shown. I want all the top dogs! You name ’em I want to fight them. I’ve been saying this for so long!”
“It’s like when you keep saying the same thing over and over and over again, you know I am getting tired of saying it at this point. But I’m not going to stop because I know the fans want to see these fights in reality.”
It will be interesting to see what fight Haney is able to pen next. Ideally, he will be able to score the Diaz dust-up and if not hopefully it will be a match-up that will entice the boxing public. Regardless who of his next foe is however, 3kingsboxing will be there to report the news.
