A Rusty Devin Haney is Heading into the Garcia Rematch
With the rematch against “King” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20KO) on the line, Devin “The Dream” Haney (32-0, 15 KO) played it safe in a fight against one-time unified junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez. The Dream is not ready to face Garcia in the rematch.
Despite winning the fight, The Dream moved around the ring, fighting off the backfoot, landing one or two shots at a time. What was extremely frustrating was the fact that he forgot to use the jab until the middle rounds. Ramirez didn’t make it any better by following Haney corner to corner without cutting off the ring.
This author said that Haney needed to look impressive, and he failed to do so. It will be hard to convince the boxing public that they will see anything worth watching in the upcoming rematch.
Haney should forgo the rematch and take another fight or two. Nevertheless, the rematch will take place while fans and pundits continue to call his mental state into question.
