Haney welcomes Mayweather comparisons

WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15KOs) knows that he’s his own man. However, that doesn’t stop him from embracing the comparisons between himself and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The two have an outstanding relationship, as known by the countless hours the two have put in the gym recently. While not many fighters or athletes in general like to be compared to past greats, Haney is different.

In an interview with fighthype.com, he revealed such when asked about the Mayweather comparisons.

“That’s what it’s about! If somebody is the best of my era and the top gun and never lost before, why not? I’m blessed, I’m thankful to be compared to somebody like that. Of course I am Devin Haney, I am my own man and the world understands that. I’m doing it may way. Of course, I think everybody understands that. But why not? I embrace that, I’m happy.”

Many fighters have been compared to Floyd Mayweather from Adrien Broner, Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson. Will Haney actually be the guy that comes close to obtaining anything close to the success that he had throughout his illustrious career? Only time will tell.
