There were reports that surfaced on Christmas day of a bout between former champions Devon Alexander and Andre Berto but they appear to be just rumors. After contacting someone close to Alexander, 3KingsBoxing.com was told that the St. Louis native is trying to secure a fight with Victor Ortiz for February.
This fight would be a must win for both guys in a clash most feel should’ve happened a few years ago. Both fighter’s are in the process of trying to return to their former glory.
Alexander, a former two division world champion, most recently was in the ring this past November in beating Walter Castillo by a 10 round unanimous decision in St. Petersburg, Florida. Alexander dominated the fight while winning by the scores 100-89, 96-93 and 100-89. It was the first fight for Alexander in over two years.
Ortiz, a former welterweight champion, is coming off stopping 31-year-old journeyman Saul Corral in the 4th round in July. Prior to that Ortiz was stopped by Berto back in April of 2016.
