Dina Thorslund Makes Easy Work Of Yulihan Luna
Fighting on home soil at the Graakjaer Arena in Holstebro, Denmark, WBO champion Dina Thorslund remained unbeaten (20-0, 8 KOs) with a unanimous decision win (97-93, 99-91 and 98-92) over WBC champion Yulihan Avila “La Cobrita” Luna (25-4-1, 4 KOs) to become the unified bantamweight champion at 118 pounds.
TAKING THE INITIATIVE
Thorslund forced the action and had Luna on the back foot in the opening rounds. Luna started to get her teeth into the fight in round three, as she did a decent job of getting home with the jab and counter-left hooks to the body.
At times, Thorslund was eager to land shots and was not setting things up, and La Cobrita was making her pay. At the midway mark, it was a competitive contest.
GOING INTO OVERDRIVE
But it was at this point of the bout when Thorslund raised her game. As the Danish crowd was wildly cheering for their home fighter, she fought with an even greater sense of urgency.
The WBC champion tagged Luna with big shots in round seven. Rounds eight, nine, and ten saw Thorslund apply relentless pressure. Luna fought hard until the final bell, but she could not match the pace and tenacity of her opponent.
Overall, it was a decisive victory for Thorsland, who now holds two world titles at 118. She wants to win another world belt at 118 and badly wants a fight with IBF bantamweight champion Ebanie Bridges at some point in 2024.
