Dmitry Bivol Determined to Be His Best in Beterbiev Rematch

Keeping your emotions in check is key to any fighter. That’s foremost on the mind of Dmitry Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs) ahead of his highly anticipated February 22 rematch with undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs). It’s a battle that Bivol is more than capable of winning.

A former WBA champion at 175, Bivol lost a competitive majority decision to Beterbiev in November 2024 in Saudi Arabia. In the days leading up to this upcoming contest, Bivol sat down for an exclusive interview with DAZN Boxing and talked about keeping things in perspective headlining an event billed as the greatest fight card ever.

“I don’t feel too much pressure – less pressure than before . . . I think about only doing my job very well and win this fight . . . keep my emotions, gain it, and expose it in the ring.”

KEEPING THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING

In their previous encounter, Bivol surprised many pundits when he occasionally stood and traded with the hard-hitting Beterbiev. He had his fair share of success. Many fight fans felt that Bivol did enough to warrant the decision. However, the one-time WBA belt holder was not satisfied with his performance. He revealed to DAZN Boxing that he modified some things during training camp to ensure being on his A-game.

“I have to be closer to my one hundred percent. I have to be even one fifty percent. I have to be.”

THE PICTURE OF CONCENTRATION

If Bivol is completely dialed in, watch out! He showed in their first battle that he is the faster fighter with the superior jab and footwork. Bivol also showed that he could take the shots of the undisputed champion.

Beterviev is physically stronger and the bigger puncher. But he’s also forty years old and has suffered from multiple injuries over the years. Age and attrition are starting to catch up with the veteran.

The calm demeanor of Bivol belies someone with a burning desire to be the best. During the various press events and interviews, it’s clear that Bivol is laser focused. Feeling that he’s learned from what he did right and wrong against Beterbiev in October, the skilled craftsman understands the task at hand. A serene and determined Bivol in top form could carry the day on February 22 and end up with the biggest victory of his career to become the new undisputed champion at 175.
