Oscar Duarte Decisions Sims and Looks Forward to Gary Russell!
For his latest win, super lightweight fighter Oscar “La Migrana” Duarte (30-2-1, 23 KO’s) beat the slick Kenneth “Bossman” Sims Jr (22-3-1, 8 KO’s) by majority decision. The victory marked Duarte’s fourth consecutive win since losing to Ryan Garcia back on December 2, 2023. Naturally that is a good look for the #5 (WBA) ranked bruiser.
Even better than this is the fact that this duel with Sims Jr. was a WBA title eliminator. Sitting atop that lofty perch is WBA 140-pound champion Gary Antuanne “The Last” Russell (18-1, 17 KO’s). Russell was last in the squared circle collecting a unanimous decision win over Jose Valenzuela back on March 1.
“140 pounds, watch out, I want that belt! Yes (I want Russell next), I am ready for anybody! I want the title I am ready!”
When considering the come-forward, concussive styles of Russell and Duarte, it’s hard to envision a fight that wouldn’t be explosive. Since both men are up for the fight, injury free and on this collision course, there is no reason that this showdown does not happen next. Yet, with the tricky business of boxing being what it is, let’s see what happens next officially.
