Benn Must Look Impressive Against Dobson To Get A Big Fight
Welterweight contender Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (22-0, 14KO) is aiming to face some of the prominent names in the division. However, his promoter, Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, acknowledges that first, The Destroyer must make a statement against “Pistol” Peter Dobson (16-0, 9KO).
Benn is eager to step into the ring with the division’s top guys. One of the names he has been calling out is IBF champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis. There is no denying he is a top talent in the division, but if the plan is to make a run for a title, then The Destroyer must look impressive against an unknown fighter like Dobson.
HE NEEDS TO MAKE A STATEMENT
While speaking with Matchroom Boxing, Hearn explained the importance of Benn being dominant in the fight.
“I think some people look at Conor Benn as maybe a hype job . . . it’s statement time. We know there is talk of the big fights. This is a good, solid test to give him activity. But, he must be rolling through guys like Peter Dobson. He’s got to go in there and annihilate him and make a big statement.”
“He’s got a job to do on Saturday and he needs to do it in style.”
Eddie Hearn
Hearn is right in this situation, as Benn cannot struggle or go to war with Pistol Peter. He has to show the boxing public that he’s on another level and ready for a run a championship title.
Benn is still battling with the BBBofC (British Boxing Board of Control), as they’ve appealed a ruling by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Panel, which exonerated The Destroyer for two failed drug tests.
Looking to put all of this behind him, Benn is laser-focused on making an impact in 2024.
