Hearn Eyes Showdown Between Joshua and Fury in 2024
Matchroom Boxing executive Eddie Hearn is eager to witness a clash between two-time unified champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (27-3, 24KO) and WBC champion “The Gypsy King” Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24KO) in 2024.
The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Boxing fans were expecting an announcement regarding Joshua versus Deontay Wilder for 2024. However, Wilder’s shocking upset loss to Joseph Parker has disrupted any previously laid plans.
So, the burning question in the boxing world is: what’s next? IBF mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic’s name has been mentioned.
HE HOPES THE WBC CHAMPION IS VICTORIOUS
While speaking with the media, Hearn expressed his desire to set up a fight with Fury. Additionally, he is hopeful the WBC champion will emerge victorious in the upcoming battle for undisputed against unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.
“Listen, I have to be honest. I would love to see him fight Tyson Fury. If Tyson Fury can beat Oleksandr Usyk, I would love to see him fight Tyson Fury. I love that fight. I hope that Tyson can be triumphant in that fight.”
Eddie Hearn
Joshua backed up his promoter’s statement and clarified that this doesn’t mean he’s avoiding Hrgovic.
“100% Tyson Fury, but I’m not dodging Hrgovic, by the way. I’ll fight Hrgovic as well.”
Anthony Joshua
In 2022, the boxing community almost got to witness Fury-AJ when The Gypsy King took to social media calling for the fight. As both sides attempted to negotiate a deal, fans were ultimately let down when Hearn revealed talks had ceased. History repeated itself in 2023, after Fury posted a draft was sent to team Joshua only for the fight not to happen.
Provided Fury is victorious in becoming undisputed, a showdown with Joshua is the next big financial fight in the division.
