Ryan Garcia Publicly Makes his Case to Fight Devin Haney

On December 2, super lightweight boxer “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KO’s) defeated Oscar Duarte to hop back in the win column. In his previous match, he suffered his first professional loss to Regular WBA 135-pound champion Gervonta Davis. Not wanting to rest on his laurels of the Duarte win, Garcia is intent on scoring a fight with WBC super lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KO’s).

“I’ve messaged everybody you can think of that can make this fight happen. So look it, it’s looking like it. The only thing that can stop it is him – that’s it because I am ready to fight. But I’m also ready to make the most fair and honorable deal you can to make the fight happen. So, that is where I stand. If he doesn’t want that, that is the only way it won’t happen. And guess what, it will be espoused. Because Devin, you want this fight, I want this fight. Tank doesn’t want to fight you, I do! Point blank period, I do!”

THE NEXT VALIDATION?

The two have been going back and forth with signing a fight since they were both housed in the lightweight division. Unfortunately, at the time it was Garcia who appeared to be the less interested party. After working his way up to being Haney’s mandatory challenger, King Ry bizarrely abandoned the opportunity to supposedly face Tank Davis.

At that point in time though, Garcia did not fight Haney and his reputation suffered a great deal during this stint of time. In fact, for quite a while Garcia became the laughing stock of the division. Thankfully for him, his fans and promotional team, King Ry did get the match with Tank Davis and has largely begun putting new respect on his name.

If Garcia can finalize a match with Haney however, this will go a great deal further to illustrating the serious type of boxer he is seeking to be. Also, taking into account the present run that Haney is on, if King Ry could best him, Garcia would land in the best position of his professional career. First though, let’s see what comes of the behind the scenes negotiations between the two teams.
