In a heavyweight showdown featuring former sparring partners, Efe Ajagba (20-1, 14KO) overcame early adversity to defeat Guido Vianello (12-2-1, 10KO).

Vianello looked sharp early. He fought well behind the jab, and managed to put the Nigerian on defense. In round two, he landed a picture-perfect right hand that put Ajagba in survival mode until the bell sounded. It looked as if the fight was going to be over but over the next several rounds, the WBC silver titlist gathered himself and went to work with the jab. He pressured Vianello with hard right-hand shots behind a powerful jab.

Vianello looked worn down. However, after catching a second wind, he started using the angles to land hard right hands followed by painful left hooks. Yet, Ajagba regained control of the fight with the jab and repeatedly landed uppercuts.

Down the stretch, Vianello had to work hard to land punches against a more defensive-minded Ajagba. He tried switching from orthodox to southpaw, then used the angles to land right hands and sneaky body shots. Ajagba used the jab to keep his opponent at bay. He had to dig deep to overcome Vianello’s aggression by landing straight right hands.

When the final bell sounded, it went to the judges. One judge scored it 96-94 for Vianello with the other two scoring it 96-94 in favor of Ajagba. 3Kings Boxing has no problem with the scorecards as it could have gone either way.

This was a solid fight where Ajagba had to make several adjustments for the victory.
