Eleider Alvarez To Pull Out Of Purse Bid

Alvarez will not face Gvozdyk

3KingsBoxing.com has learned that Eleider Alvarez will pull out of Friday’s scheduled purse bid. Earlier we reported the announcement of the WBC setting Friday as the day for the purse bid for an interim title contest between Alvarez and Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

Alvarez, 23-0 11KO, has been the mandatory to WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson for two years but has continued to accept step aside money to allow Stevenson to fight other opponents.

As we stated earlier Gvozdyk’s promoter Top Rank was likely to win the purse bid but it is not clear if this is the reason Alvarez pulled out or not. Whatever the reason it’s not a good look for Alvarez, who is managed by Al Haymon and promoted by Yvon Michel. 3KingsBoxing.com made an effort to reach out to Alvarez but was told no comment at this time.

Expect a ruling to come from the WBC soon that could order the second ranked Gvozdyk to either be promoted to the mandatory position or another elimination bout of some type.
