Little Known Ellie Scotney Wants A Shot At Ebanie Bridges

Former WBA bantamweight title challenger Ebanie “The Blonde Bomber” Bridges has risen up the ranks in female boxing in terms of popularity whether it is warranted or not. After her last outing on September 4, Bridges got won by the skin of her teeth over little known challenger Mailys Gangloff. Now she has been targeted by 2017 England Boxing National Amateur Champion turned pro Ellie Scotney.

ON A DIFFERENT MISSION

When your popularity is high, it doesn’t take long for people to try and see what you are made of. The Australian Mathematics teacher known mostly for her “exciting” weigh-ins and the “auctioning off” of her gym garments over the internet to thirsty fans, holds down a professional record of 7-1 with 3 knockouts. Her lone loss came by dropping a close unanimous decision in her first title bid against current WBA bantamweight champion Shannon Courtenay in April.

Since she has been adamant about getting redemption for the loss she and her following felt she should have won and for the gruesome eye injury Courtenay handed her in defeat. However as of now, that rematch has yet to be a point of discussion which leaves her open to another opponent in the near future.

NO NEED TO WAIT!

Many fans reading this will say “who the hell is Ellie Scotney?” While she is little known on the world stage, only compiling a 2-0 record after turning pro in October 2020, many within her native United Kingdom already believe the 23 year-old to be the most skilled bantamweight in women’s boxing! Therefore, it is not a surprise that when she posted the following on social media, many known UK fighters jumped in to support.

Ellie Scotney calls out Ebanie Bridges.

This callout mostly stems from the fact that Bridges’ last two opponents after losing to Courtenay just happen to be Scotney’s first two opponents of her pro career. Before edging Gangloff, The Blonde Bomber knocked out Bec Connolly in August. Meanwhile, Scotney defeated Connolly and Gangloff by decision in October 2020 and March 2021 respectively. In particular, the prospect’s win over Gangloff was much more impressive as she won every round but one in the six round contest.

In a post fight interview posted by Matchroom Boxing, Bridges mentioned she has been interested in facing Scotney. Although she stated the prospect doesn’t have power, she also recognized the high-level skill she possesses and her desire to share the ring with Scotney. Looks like the two fighters want the bout. Now it’s just a matter of putting the fight together!
