Erick Rosa Dominant In Stoppage Win Over Orlando Pino
At the Pabellon de Esgrima, Centro Olimpico, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, WBA Regular minimumweight champion Erick “Mini Pacman” Rosa (6-0, 2 KOs) remained unbeaten with an eighth-round stoppage over Orlando Pino (14-2, 8 KOs) in a non-title affair.
IN CONTROL FROM BEGINNING TO END
It was basically a glorified sparring session for Rosa, who set the tone from the opening bell and applied steady pressure.
Pino had negative body language throughout and offered little resistance. Whenever he tried to stand and trade, Rosa avoided shots and tagged Rosa with shots to the head and body.
Due to the timid nature of his opponent, Rosa spent much of his efforts working on the midsection of Pino. By the middle rounds, you could see Pino starting to wear down. At the end of round eight, the corner of Pino had seen enough and would not let him come out for round nine.
It was a solid performance for Rosa, who has been out of action since December 2021, when he captured the WBA belt with a twelve-round split-decision win over Vic Saludar.
Next up for Rosa should be a matchup with WBA Super 105-pound champion Knockout CP Freshmart. There have been numerous attempts to make that fight happen. Word on the street is they will finally face each other this fall.
