Marlen Esparza and Seniesa Estrada Rivalry Still Going

The bad blood between fighters can last almost a lifetime. Fighters develop a rivalry from something that happened in the amateurs or after facing each other in the ring. Unified flyweight champion Marlen Esparza (12-1, 1KO) and two-division champion Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada’s (22-0, 9KOs) rivalry continues to burn hot.

Both fighters have off-setting stories on how the beef started, with Estrada claiming the unified champion bad-mouthing her is what kicked it off. Yet, Esparza holds firm on laying blame on Estrada and her father’s trash-talking since the amateur days.

In 2019, Golden Boy Promotions put then-undefeated Esparza and Estrada on the opposite side of the ring against each other. Super Bad was declared the winner but the fight was not without controversy and both fighters assured that their beef was far from done.

Both fighters have gone on to make their mark in the sport of boxing. As previously mentioned, Esparza defeated top champions Ibeth Silva and Naoko Fujioka to become a unified champion. Estrada is a top-five, if not a top-three best female fighter in the sport.

THE REMATCH HAS TO HAPPEN

Yet, their bad blood is still ongoing. During an interview with Best Women’s Boxing Show Period, Esparza took issue with the commentary of Estrada in the Fujioka fight

“I heard everything she said, and I thought she was just being a bit salty. She was trying to be professional, but she made it a lot about […] ‘me, me, me’.”

When asked if there would be a time when the both of them can co-exist in the same space, Esparza expressed not having a personal issue with Estrada but the rematch will happen, essentially.

“In boxing with the thing and how she acts, it bothers me; I feel she’s bratty. But, when it comes to her as a human being, I don’t mind her at all […] I’m trying to clear the air, everything’s okay. She’ll hold the line on that, on being very against it. So when the time comes, the time will come.”

By now, fans know how this works. Estrada got wind of this and did not hesitate to take a shot at her rival not being featured on commentary as part of the DAZN main show.
