Mahammadrasul Majidov suffers stunning upset loss to Andrey Fedosov!
On the undercard of Andrade vs Williams, the Russian powerhouse Mahammadrasul Majidov (3-1, 3 KO’s) suffered a stunning upset loss. Despite Majidov entering the bout as an overwhelming favorite, Andrey Fedosov (32-3, 26 KO’s) said to hell with the odds! As expected, Majidov came out strong behind a thumping and impressive jab that was giving Fedosov all kinds of problems. Then one powerful, straight right that landed on the button completely changed the fight. Upon impact, the big man with a highly decorated amateur background crumpled to the floor. While the punch was devastating, it was far from his biggest problem.
NO LEG TO STAND ON
When Majidov fell, he went straight down and all of his weight landed on his right ankle. Replays would capture the gruesome nature in which it twisted around in almost a complete 180º turn. Despite the severity of his injury, the big man managed to beat the count and attempted to continue on with the fight. Regardless of his grit and courage however, he was far too impaired to continue competing with any competence. Seeing that his foe was seriously debilitated, Fedosov jumped right back on him. While he did throw a few more shots, none landed with any real impact, although it made little difference. Simply trying to move out of the way of the strikes caused Majidov to go down for a second time in the first period.
This time however, with his face drenched in pain, Majidov did not even attempt to rise again and allowed the ref to count him out. Given how utterly mangled his ankle was, only a sadist would take issue with his decision to call it a day. As stated earlier, this was a stunning upset win for Fedosov, who had not fought professionally in nearly three full years. Coming into the bout, Majidov had a potentially blindingly bright future. As an amateur he was able to capture World Championship gold in 2011, 2013 and 2017. Also, in the 2012 Olympic Games, Majidov won the gold medal. Going forward it will be interesting to see how Fedosov capitalizes on this win.
