Frampton & Donaire May Be WBO Eliminator

Frampton vs Donaire could be an elimination bout for the WBO

Unsurprisingly Frank Warren is trying to make the fight between Super Featherweights Carl Frampton and Nonito Donaire a WBO eliminator. Warren has long had good links with the organisation and several in his stable either are of have held the WBO title at various weights. Billy-Joe Saunders holding the middleweight belt and Terry Flanagan vacating the lightweight strap to move up for the vacant light welterweight belt.

Frampton, who takes on Donaire at the SSE Arena in Belfast has come under a fair share of criticism after his lack luster performance last time out, but realises a victory in this fight opens many doors for him

“I think some boxing fans are very fickle.

“I’ve probably been doubted more than I’ve ever been by some people but this will answer a lot of questions and will prove to people that I’ve still got a lot to give.

“It does annoy you a bit. I’m only human but when you think about it rationally, the people that are criticisng are sitting in their mum’s front bedroom giving you grief on a laptop.

“So it doesn’t really matter what they think. I’ve done a lot in my career and I hope to be able to do a lot more.”

Being purely speculative of course but given Frampton and IBF champion Lee Selby are both promoted by Warren, and should things go his way. Could we finally see Frampton achieve his dream of bringing a world title fight to Windsor Park?

Only time will tell.
