Frank Warren is hoping a January 2 meeting will produce Daniel Dubois vs Joe Joyce in the first quarter of 2020!
One of the heavyweight division’s rising stars is Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (14-0, 13 KO’s). Although only in the infancy of his professional career, the hard-hitting young fighter has garnered a great deal attention.
Even at the tender age of 22 with just fourteen bouts to his name, there are already those ready to see him step up his competition. Thankfully for the fans his promoter, Frank Warren, of Queensberry Promotions, is of the same mindset.
YOUNG GUNS COLLIDE
Following Dynamite’s last bout on December 21, against Kyotaro Fujimoto (21-2, 13 KO’s), he and Warren had a run-in of sorts with his would be divisional rival Joe “Juggernaut” Joyce (10-0, 9 KO’s). Tagging along with Joyce was his manager, Sam Jones who engaged Warren in an on-air back-and-forth exchange. In a nutshell it was suggested that the two undefeated contenders should fight next.
Despite working the spectators into healthy lather, in that moment, there was nothing made concrete. Now in a recent interview with ThaBoxingVoice, Warren has confirmed that the talks for this bout are still on-going.
In fact the two teams have a formal meeting planned for January 2. If given their way, Dubois v Joyce will be announced very shortly. At the moment though, unless there is further confirmation, the bout appears to still be a case of wishful thinking.
“I’m meeting with his guys, Sam Jones, his manager, and his lawyer. I’m meeting with them on Friday and we’ll see what happens. The fight will definitely happen this year. We would like to get it on ASAP and that’s what we’re working towards happening.
“We’re meeting and I hope to get it over the line. All sides want to see the fight happen. They see it as a bigger fight down the line with both guys continuing to win. I’m going to say our side wants to get it on as soon as possible.”
FINGERS CROSSED AND HOPES ARE HIGH
Remaining optimistic, if the dust-up was contracted then this would admittedly stand as a big step up for each combatant. On one hand, Warren openly admits that this would certainly plunge his fighter into a new and more intense realm of danger. Yet, with that being said, he is more than willing and confident that his charge could swim in the deeper waters.
The UK promoters’ wealth of faith is anchored in Dubois’ healthy and accomplished amateur background. The Queensberry bigwig believes that the experience that Dynamite acquired fighting all styles all over the world have sufficiently prepared him for anything that Joyce could throw at him.

“I agree that it’s a step up for him. He only had seven senior bouts as an amateur. But I just feel that he’s a very quick learner. He’s developed very quickly over the last year. He showed a different side. He’s boxing!
“The fact that he is not just a big puncher, he can box, he’s got a fantastic jab and I just feel he needs this sort of challenge.
“Joe’s, you know, a very accomplished amateur. He fought all over the world, he fought in the Olympic Games, the World Amateur Championships and he’s 10-0 as a pro. And for a guy who’s only had ten fights as a pro he’s fought a couple decent opponents at that level.
“So that is a step-up for Daniel, but it’ll also be a step-up in my opinion for Joe as well. I think that the fans will be in for a treat if we can get this over the line.”
