Joshua Franco eyes Roman Gonzalez fight!
WBA Super Flyweight champion Joshua “El Professor” Franco (17-1-2, 8KOs) has unfinished business with former champion Andrew Moloney (21-1, 14KOs). The two are expected to fight for the third consecutive time sometime in 2021. However, that has not stopped the champion from San Antonio, Texas from looking forward to a possible matchup with the super WBA champion at super flyweight, Roman Gonzalez (50-2, 41KOs).
As with Franco, Gonzalez has some unfinished business to tend to. He will tangle with Mexican rival Francisco Estrada for the second time on March 13. That fight will be a rematch from 2012, which Gonzalez won by unanimous decision.
Franco was asked about a possible showdown with the Nicaraguan and possibly being the one to end his illustrious career. He told Fight Hub TV the following.
EYEING A SHOWDOWN WITH CHOCOLATITO!
“That would make feel great and it would make me feel […], it has to happen for me to describe it you know. I mean, that’s something I’m looking forward to. Like I said, I’ve been wanting the Chocolatito fight for a long time now, and you know what? Not only to dethrone him, I just feel like me and him would have such a great fight and the fans would really enjoy it and you know it would be really worth watching. I know our styles together go perfectly and it’ll be an all out war. For sure, it’ll be a fight to remember. You know, hopefully it goes down in history.”
Franco has had to fight his way to world title glory the hard way. He knows that the only way to get the big fights is to keep winning. A second win over Moloney could possibly deliver him the biggest fight of his career. However, that comes down the line. What matters first is the most important fight of his career against the man that can prevent all of that from happening, Andrew Moloney.
