Argentinian flyweight Gabriela Celeste “La Chucky” Alaniz (15-1, 6 KO’s) got sweet revenge over rival Marlen Esparza (14-2, 1 KO’s).
This scrap stood as the immediate rematch to their hotly contested premier bout last July 8, 2023. In the initial duel, Esparza walked away with the win and hard way by way of majority decision. This time La Chucky evened the score and was awarded the WBO, WBA, WBC and Ring title in the spoils of war by way of split decision.

In many regards this bout shared a great deal of elements of their last squirmish. Alaniz was by far the busier and aggressive fighter. To her credit, her swarming pressure style was effective a good measure of the time. On the flip side, Esparza fought well off the back foot while popping Alaniz in the face, nose and eye with a nifty jab.
As the boxers were fairly evenly matched, over the course of the fight there were countless shifts in who was leading and the one being temporarily flustered. Neither really hurt or buzzed the other. Therefore, when all was said and done, the judges favored the frenetic activity of Alaniz over the poised accuracy of Esparza’s.
La Chucky was awarded the win by split decision to the tune of 98-92 (Esparza), 97-93 and 98-92 (Alaniz). It will be interesting to see who Alaniz duels with next. Will it be a new foe, or will a rematch clause signal the rubber match to this evenly fought war? Stay tuned to find out!
