Yuriorkis Gamboa to Undergo Surgery on Torn Achilles
Many people were skeptical about the severity of the Achilles injury that Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-3, 18KOs) suffered in his December 28 fight against Gervonta Davis (23-0, 22KOs). He would reveal the injury to be a torn Achilles’ tendon.
In the second round, the Cuban would suffer the injury. Fighting through what had to be an excruciating amount of pain, Gamboa gave a valiant effort. Still, could even he, a top athlete, fight through that severe of an injury?
Yes he could and yes he did. He took to his social media to confirm that he indeed suffered a complete tear of his Achilles’ tendon, which will require surgery. At 38 years old, and doubtlessly way past his prime, this is a devastating blow. However, he’s still hungry for a rematch with Davis.
We here at 3kingsboxing.com would like to wish him a speedy and successful recovery.
