Zhilei Zhang Wants To Settle Score In Pro’s With Anthony Joshua
In their last tours of duty, heavyweights Anthony “AJ” Joshua (27-3, 24 KO’s) and interim WBO heavyweight champion Zhilei “Big Bang” Zhang (26-1-1, 21 KO’s) scored big wins. In his duel, Zhang finished Joe Joyce in an impressive three rounds whereas AJ stopped Otto Wallin in five. AJ, however, did have a tentative deal in place with one-time heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Sadly, Wilder was soundly defeated by Joseph Parker.
With Wilder temporarily out of the equation, there is now the matter of who AJ will face next to settle. Looking to fill this void, the interim champion willingly put his name in the hat.
CHINA VS UK?!
A duel with Zhang really does make a great deal of sense at the moment. Currently, all the full titles are tied up with unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Fury and Usyk are slated to dance with one another in 2024.
With all the hardware unavailable, a scrap with Zhang is not only a great fight, it’s significant because it inches him that much closer to a rumble with Usyk, or whoever holds the title following the dust up with Fury.
Regardless of who Joshua next tests his might against, there is no denying that he is sitting in a very favorable position. Clearly, the three bouts that he staged this year have set him up for a beautiful 2024. So let’s wait and see what AJ and his team come up with next.
