Garcia Likely To Vacate Title

Garcia looking to stay at 140lbs for now

The IBF gave Mikey Garcia an ultimatum either vacate his WBC Lightweight Title or be stripped of his IBF Super Lightweight Title.

Garcia was saying he wanted to stay in both divisions and try to unify belts at both weight classes. Well, the IBF threw cold water on that with their ultimatum and the fact that they immediately said Ivan Baranchyk will be the mandatory.

So, it looks like Garcia has decided to stay at 140 and defend his IBF Title. As it’s expected for him to drop his WBC Lightweight Title sometime in the near future and persue other fights at 140.

An order to start negotiations for a defense against Baranchyk is likely to come soon.
