Ryan Garcia Intends to Bring the Pain to Javier Fortuna!

As lightweight boxer Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (22-0, 18 KO’s) has learned all too well, fame can be a deadly double-edged blade. Sure, Garcia’s fame, garnered through his social media ambitions, has made him the benefactor of widespread notoriety. Also, his popularized brand has added power to his position at the bargaining table. On the flipside however, that same fame has him pinioned under a brutal microscope where his every move is typically highly scrutinized.

This is why when he first stopped pursuing a match with Regular WBA 135-pound champ Gervonta “Tank” Davis, his credibility took a hit. Yet, when he backed out of his first signed fight deal with former 130-pound champion Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (37-3-1, 26 KO’s), Garcia’s name value plummeted to record lows. King Ry was able to get a solid victory over Emmanuel Tagoe earlier in April. While it was good to get back in the ring, that was not the type of opponent that will restore faith in Garcia.

WHAT YOU SAY?!

In his next bout King Ry, who is ranked #2 (WBC), #6 (WBA) and #10 (IBF) will take on the talented but aging Fortuna. The match will be exceedingly gratifying for Garcia for two reasons. The first being, the foiled match with Fortuna is when Garcia was officially dubbed ‘the boy who cries wolf.’ So, now he has the opportunity to right a past wrong.

To add fuel to fire, along with much of the boxing public, El Abejon had a number of unsavory accusations of his own to levy at Garcia. This is why the Californian kid is relishing his opportunity to force-feed Fortuna, ranked #9 (WBA) and #11 (WBC), his words.

“My intention going in there is to make this guy eat his words. You know, suffocate with my punches, make sure that I really teach this man a lesson to not speak on certain things. But I can’t wait because this is the type of guy that kind of represents a lot of negativity that I don’t like in this world. So I am going to give him some truth and I am going to beat him down.”
