Ryan Garcia stops Jose Lopez in two rounds.
Popular lightweight prospect Ryan Garcia (17-0, 14KO) made his 2019 ring debut with a BANG!
In the opening round, the underdog Jose Lopez came out aggressive trying to quickly establish a tempo for the fight. Garcia, to his credit, kept his composure and discipline; electing to use his jab and throw straight right-hands and left hooks.
Lopez appeared to be hurt at the end of round one by a combination, however, the bell would save him from what would ultimately come in the next round.
Round two saw Garcia open up and start to take advantage of Lopez’s aggressiveness; patiently waiting and countering his opponent. It would pay off as he landed another thudding combination that would put Lopez down.
A visibly shaken Lopez would stumble to his feet with the bell sounding to save him again. However, the bell could not save him from his corner!
Before the start of the third round, his trainer had seen enough and informed the referee his fighter wouldn’t continue.
In the post-fight interview, Garica sent a message to all affiliated with Floyd Mayweather.
“I have a message for Mayweather…The time will come and I’ll whip your ass! I’m not intimidated by Mayweather!”
While he did not specify exactly who within Mayweather’s camp he was referring to, one cannot help but believe the message was sent to both Rolando “Rollie” Romero and Gervonta Davis. The two have been on social media in recent months engaging in some back-and-fourth action.

As Garcia continues his rise up the ranks in the lightweight division, inevitable fights with names like Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta Davis become more and more anticipated.
