Ryan Garcia Is Still Interested in Fighting Gervonta Davis!
Unbeaten former 135-pound Interim WBC champion Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (21-0, 18KOs) is gearing up for his first fight in over a year when he returns to the squared circle on April 9 against Emmanuel Tagoe live on DAZN. He last fought in January 2021, against former world title challenger Luke Campbell (20-4, 16KOs), whom he stopped in seven rounds.
Prior to his bout with Campbell, Garcia had been hot on the trail of multi-weight world champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (26-0, 24KOs). If it wasn’t shots towards his fellow unbeaten adversary on social media, it was in interviews. He even went as far as to put together a video of himself mocking and trolling Davis. Still, it wasn’t enough.
Garcia , who’s now trained by Joe Goosen, insists there will be no more callouts by him due to the fights he called for not materializing. However, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still want to fight Davis, whose contract with Mayweather Promotions is apparently up after his May 28 fight against Rolly Romero. If that is indeed true, one would think a fight with Garcia would be easier to arrange.
NO MORE CALLOUTS!
Garcia spoke with Fight Hub TV and had the following to say about still wanting to fight Davis and why he’ll no longer be calling fighters out.
“Possibly. I mean, we don’t know what these fighters really want to do. You know, in the past, I would say a lot, but none of it happened. So now I’m just going to wait for my opportunity. I know whatever happens is supposed to happen, and I’m just going to leave it at that, and I really don’t feel like calling anybody out.”
TANK DAVIS STILL THE PRIORITY!
“Always! I mean that’s the biggest money fight, obviously. Not only money, everybody is going to be watching. The world will be watching myself and Tank. So I think that’s the most important fight in boxing for myself and, I think, for the fans.”
Let’s hope both Davis and Garcia give the fight fans what they want to see. Both of these guys are hitting their primes, and possess fight-ending power and fan-friendly styles. Time will tell if the two ever cross paths or not.
