Gassiev May Unify With Kabayel Or Dubois
WBA regular heavyweight champion Murat “Iron” Gassiev (34-2, 27KO) easily defended the title against replacement fighter Peter Kadiru (23-2, 13KO). With this fight behind him, Iron must now look to make some noise by seeking a unification with WBC champion Agit Kabayel or WBO champion Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois.
Gassiev controlled the fight from the opening bell. His experience, combination punching, and power were too much for Kadiru. It was a completely overmatched bout, which is typical when finding a last-minute replacement.
Iron is now in the heavyweight picture as the division is being reshuffled after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the titles. It is only a matter of time before the WBA elevates him to Super champion status.
A FORGOTTEN CHAMPION IN NEED OF A UNIFICATION
Gassiev, like most regular title holders, lived in the super champion’s shadow. Despite fighting in the United States and other countries, he hasn’t been able to create any buzz as a heavyweight.
With the division open, looking for someone to take over, the German champion needs a unification bout. He could look to unify with Kabayel (27-0, 19KO), Dubois (23-2, 22KO), or wait to see who wins the IBF title. A possible issue with making either fight would require Gassiev to travel to the United Kingdom.
Filip Hrgovic would make for a good fight now that he possibly may not be facing Moses Itauma. Bottom line, Team Gassiev needs to make a move, and the time is now.
