George Kambosos Yet To Sign For October 16 Fight Date Against Teofimo Lopez

Ever since Triller won the rights in February to host unified lightweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez’ (16-0, 12KOs) first title defense against “Ferocious” George Kambosos Jr (19-0, 10KOs), things have been quite shaky and unpredictable. Originally set to face off on June 5, the fight was moved to June 19 to avoid Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition bout with Logan Paul.

Little did we know the revolving door of dates was just getting started. After Lopez contracted Covid-19 the fight was yet again postponed. This time it was rescheduled for August 14. Yet again, that date would prove to be temporary as October 5 was pegged as the date. However, all parties couldn’t seem to get on the same page as they wrestled over the date and location of the fight.

A NEW DATE IS SET YET AGAIN..OR IS IT?!

After being plagued by higher marquee fights taking place on preferred dates and Lopez catching Covid-19. Triller finally settled on October 4, but more trouble has arisen. The date would change again to October 16 to avoid competition with NFL Monday Night Football. ESPN has reported that Kambosos legal team has asked the IBF to find Triller in default of obligation for the title fight with Lopez.

Team Kambosos has alleged that Triller is in breach of contract. Furthermore, they lied to the IBF about the mandatory fighters agreement to move the bout. They also alleged that Triller tried to get the Australian to sign an amendment that does not comply with the IBF rules. In a nutshell, Kambosos has levied serious allegations against Triller. This has led to a heated back and forth between the unified champion, and the Australian challenger on social media.

With the fight date getting closer and no signed contract from the challenger, the unified champion took to social media calling for Kambosos to back up all the talk and sign the contract.

Of course, the IBF mandatory challenger had no intentions of letting that go unanswered. He propositioned the unified champion to an actual fight outside the arena.

“Delusional weight drained kid. Why wait for October 16? We have a signed date for October 4. Like I told you at the presser, I’ll do it right now. So if you want just meet me outside of MSG. Just me and you and let’s see whose a real dog. Sorry to break it to you, but no ones scared of you.”

A LITTLE POSTURING

Lopez would respond sarcastically to the proposed street fight by tweeting “Say Less”. Nevertheless Kambosos made a post that gives the impression he may intend to go forward with the bout by referencing the phrase “#Andnew”.

The boxing community has grown weary of this situation. The last time either fighter has been in the ring was in October 2020. At some point, this circus show needs to come to a close. Fans can only hope that Triller does not move the date again and Kambosos decides to accept the new date and get in the ring to win the title.
