Gervonta Davis Says Judge Althea Handy Sentenced Him to Jail Unfairly
For multi-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (29-0, 27KO), outside-of-the-ring issues continue to dominate the boxing news cycle. He will no longer be serving house arrest and instead will finish out the remainder of his sentence in jail. In response, the Baltimore power puncher accused the judge of being “crazy” and “mad”.
On May 5, Davis agreed to do 90 days of house arrest and three years probation for a hit-and-run accident in 2020. He hit the news cycle again on June 5 when Judge Althea Handy ordered him to serve jail time after determining the fighter had violated the terms of the house arrest agreement.
DAVIS SPEAKS OUT FROM JAIL
In a phone conversation from jail with Fight Hub TV, Tank felt the need to tell his side of the story.
“This judge is crazy, bro. Basically, I bought a property. I did everything in my power to listen to my lawyers . . . She mad that I bought a property, that’s why I’m sitting in jail . . . I just want to spread light on this situation because I feel as though she’s taking advantage of me . . . I don’t know if she’s a bad judge or not, but the things that she’s doing right now is not right.“
The multi-divisional champion never got to really enjoy his time in the spotlight after winning the most lucrative fight of his career against Ryan Garcia. Their fight generated massive pay-per-view numbers of over one million buys. That feat that hasn’t been done in quite some time.
It is unclear whether or not Davis will attempt to make a return to the ring before the year ends. Hopefully, he can put all this in the rearview mirror and no longer allow personal issues to impact his career.
