Gervonta Davis: The Next To Become A Promotional Free Agent!
There hasn’t been any doubt about friction emerging between former IBF and WBA Super junior lightweight champ Gervonta ” Tank” Davis and the heads of Mayweather Promotions. The news feeds of social media have always been a stomping ground for Davis to air out his beef with several individuals.
In the weeks leading up to the December 5 press conference between Davis and WBA Regular junior lightweight champion Hector Luis Garcia, Tank expressed he was waiting for his “termination papers”. Months previous to this, he and Floyd Mayweather have taken subtle swipes at one another. Davis mentioned Mayweather was “jealous” of him at one time. Meanwhile, when asked about the status of his relationship with the young protege, Mayweather mentioned “nothing lasts forever.”

After the press conference, Davis finally confirms his relationship with Mayweather Promotions is over…for now!
“Much love to Mayweather Promotions, Leonard [Ellerbe], Floyd [Maywather], all them guys. I definitely appreciate them. But I’m just doing my own thing now. Not saying in the future we can’t work together, but I’m putting my own pants on.”
Given the heat between the parties involved, this is not a surprise. Especially since a large majority of boxing fans that question Davis’ level of competition blame Ellerbe and Mayweather for “protecting” the 28 year-old. Well, that bullet-proof vest has officially been removed!
Davis will face Garcia in one of two upcoming fights for him on January 7, 2023 on Showtime. If victorious, he expected to take on rival and Instagram star Ryan Garcia in April 2023.
