Albert Gonzalez Puts Down Alameda; Now Ready for Featherweight Title Fight
In his third bout of the year, featherweight contender Albert “Chop Chop” Gonzalez (18-0, 11 KO’s) picked up his fourth consecutive stoppage win. On this occasion, Gonzalez stopped Aaron Alameda (31-4, 18 KO’s) by knockout in the second round. To date, this marks the first time that Alameda was stopped within the distance.
Naturally, Chop Chop will want to utilize this victory to procure bigger and better fights in the future. Currently, Gonzalez is ranked #8 (IBF) and #13 (WBO) and has his sights set on any and all of the belt-carrying champions which consists of Rafael Espinoza (WBO), Angelo Leo (IBF), Bruce Carrington (WBC) and Brandon Figueroa (WBA).
“Like Adrian Broner said, ‘they call me the Can Man – anybody can get it!’ Any of them, whichever one we can line up, let’s get it! I am not picking and choosing, they are all world champions for a reason. These guys are good. To be a world champion, you have to be doing something right. We are not here to pick and choose. Whoever gives me an opportunity first, I am running it!”
Obviously, with his current rankings, his best bet would be to target either Espinoza or Angelo Leo. Luckily, at the moment, neither have a duel scheduled on the books which would seemingly leave them very available. So let’s wait and see what Team Gonzalez can drum up next.
