Han Could Face Katie Taylor or Fight a Holly Holm Trilogy
In a lightweight rematch, WBA champion Stephanie Han (13-0, 3KO) retained the title with a narrow win over Holly Holm (34-4-3, 9KO). After the fight, Han called out unified 140-pound champion Katie Taylor. In this author’s opinion, she received a hometown victory and should fight Holm in a trilogy.
Unlike their first fight in January, Holm made adjustments early and often. She started finding a home for the straight left hand while fighting behind the jab. Han did a solid job of landing counter-punches and also had success with the jab early.
In the second half of the fight, Holm was more aggressive and won more of the exchanges. She always finished the rounds strong and with the left hand. Although she made a small comeback in the last two rounds, the commentary team felt it wasn’t enough. When the final bell sounded, one judge scored it a draw, with the other two judges scoring it 96-94 in favor of Han.
When asked what she wanted to do next, the WBA champion immediately called for a fight with Taylor.
“Katie Taylor, she beat my sister, Jennifer Han. I want to have this revenge fight for her.”
Although a fight with Taylor is worth exploring, a case can be made why a trilogy is warranted.
