O’Shaquie Foster is Holding Shakur Stevenson to a Fight Promise
WBC 130-pound champion O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster (25-3, 12KO) believes the rumor that WBO 140-pound champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11KO) is signing with Zuffa Boxing is a duck move. Although there hasn’t been an official announcement, Stevenson’s potential move to Zuffa is a little perplexing.
After picking up a win over one-time 126-pound champion Raymond Ford, Ice Water and Stevenson exchanged words in the ring. There is no denying that Foster has been on quite a run, defeating some recognizable names in boxing. However, Stevenson is a top-tier pound-for-pound boxer with outstanding defense.
Regardless of whether you feel that the WBO champion is above Foster, it is an interesting fight worth exploring. The possibility of the fight happening created a buzz throughout the boxing community. Well, that buzz has been drowned out by the news of Stevenson’s new promotional home. His former promoter, Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, was first to reveal the news while speaking with members of the press.
THIS MOVE COULD MAKE THINGS DIFFICULT
While speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Foster explained why going to Zuffa could mean the fight won’t happen.
“I just seen some stuff about Zuffa. If that happens, I am definitely not sure cause I’m with Top Rank, DAZN. Zuffa, I know they’re with Paramount.”
“I really don’t know what will happen if he goes that route. But we all know that’s a super duck. It’s a duck move if he goes over there. He gave his word, and he’s not standing on it.”
The reality is right now they are paying fighters a hefty price tag, but the question that gets asked is, “who will they fight?” In addition, does this mean Stevenson will vacate the title, considering Zuffa doesn’t recognize the sanctioning bodies?
