Devin Haney Clowns Bernard Hopkins
WBC lightweight champion in recess Devin “The Dream Haney (24-0, 15ko) has been busy while recovering from shoulder surgery. So far, he has called for fights with the other champions in the division and held a public war of words with former four-divisional champion Adrien Broner.
Recently, a video went viral on social media with boxing’s youngest promoter/champion and his father confronting Hall of Fame fighter Bernard “B-Hop” Hopkins. Both Haneys were verbally making it clear they want a fight with Golden Boy’s top prospect Ryan “The Flash” Garcia (20-0, 17Ko).
After Flash quickly deposed of Francisco Fonseca (25-3-2, 19ko) with a life-draining left hook, the WBC champion ”in recess” was in attendance scouting out the competition. The history between these two fighters, like most issues boxers have on the professional level, stems back to the days of the amateur ranks and the bad blood only intensifies when there are belts, money, and prestige on the line.
It is a known fact that Golden Boy has a plan for their top prospect and a fight with former champion Jorge “El Nino de Oro” Linares is next on deck. However, that still hasn’t dissuaded the Haney’s from applying the pressure on the brass at Golden Boy.
Shortly following the backstage altercation, The Dream took exception to what Hopkins was saying and took to the usual venting location. You guessed it, social media, and dropped the mic on calling out the retired Hall of Famer.
