DEVIN HANEY PUTS AMIR KHAN ON NOTICE!
These days, Amir Khan (34-5, 21KOs) seems more inclined on doing interviews than fighting. A very opinionated guy, he’s given his thoughts on two rising talented unbeaten lightweight fighters in Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15KOs) and Ryan “The Flash” Garcia (20-0, 17KOs).
Haney and Khan sparred as the British fighter prepared for his world title bout with WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford back in April of 2019. He was stopped in that fight.
Recently he made some comments in an interview with fighthype.com regarding his sparring session with Haney, that the WBC champion in recess didn’t take to kind to.
“See I sparred with Devin Haney.”
“I did about 50 rounds with him for the Crawford fight. Yeah man, so we had some really competitive sparring sessions. The kid is a little bit lighter than me, so obviously we had to hold it back a little bit.”
“But I’m telling you, the kid is a good little fighter man, I’ve got mad respect for him. I think he will go a long way, I think since we’ve sparred, he’s fought three times since and I’ve said he’s looked wicked, his power, his speed. I speak to his dad quite a lot as well. Look, he’s a got a good team around him and his head it’s screwed on well and that’s what it’s all about.”
Most listening would ask what’s the issue with what Khan said. He gave him nothing but high praise. He also, however, mentioned that he took it light on Haney because he was the smaller man. No truly competitive fighter ever wants to hear that, nor would they be okay with a statement like that.
HANEY ISSUES A WARNING TO KHAN!
That obviously got the juices flowing in Haney, who took to social media to tag Khan letting him know he’s been put on his “hit” list.
It’s quite apparent that both of these men are on different trajectories in their respective careers right now. So, a fight between the two wouldn’t make much sense at this point. But we’ve seen throughout the history of the sport that personal beefs can be settled if the two parties involved truly wants to fight.
It’ll be interesting to see if Amir Khan responds.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
