Haney Needs Garcia Rematch To Restore His Fractured Reputation
It was a disastrous evening for WBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-1, 15 KOs), as he lost a majority decision to “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (26-1, 20 KOs) in front of a boisterous Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 20. Haney wants to run it back and fight Garcia again, as his career is suddenly in a bit of a crisis.
Haney was hurt early and had no answers for King Ry’s power and speed. Overall, it was an embarrassing effort from The Dream. Battered and bruised, Haney said he’s hopeful for a rematch.
“I would love to rematch. I gave him a shot. It’s only right that he give me a shot back.”

NO ANSWERS
Overall, it was an embarrassing performance from The Dream. Garcia was the height of unprofessionalism during the lead-up to the fight. Which culminating in him coming in three pounds over the 140-pound junior welterweight limit.
In the ring against a fighter whose greatest weapon is the left hook, Haney kept getting hit by that shot, over and over. He couldn’t or refused to make any adjustments to counter what Garcia was doing to him. The 26-year-old looked nothing like the fighter who won the WBC strap with a dominant victory over Regis Prograis in December 2023.
A FRACTURED AURA
Before the fight with Garcia, most pundits ranked Haney as one of the elite fighters in the sport. Suddenly, his high status within the sport has taken a severe hit.
The Dream still holds the WBC title at 140. But at this time, that almost means nothing. This sport is about what you’ve done lately.
He must rectify what happened to him by gaining revenge. It’s the only way to rehabilitate himself and get back in the good graces of the public.
