Phenom shines in ShoBox debut
From the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19 yr old prospect “The Dream” Devin Haney (19-0,13KO’s) took on veteran Mason Menard (33-3,24KO’s) in a 10 round lightweight bout. Haney was looking to make a statement, as this was a step up in competition for the young fighter.
Haney proved to be to elusive for Menard throughout the fight, using his lateral movement and fighting behind his jab. It was a easy night for the Haney who did what he wanted, when he wanted. Mixing his punches and literally outboxing his Menard throughout the night.
Menard could not get going, struggling to land cleanly on Haney. The young man showed great poised and you could slowly see the will come out of Menard. As the fight went on Menard seemed to become hesitant to let his hands go and went into survival mode.
It was a lopsided fight, a dominant performance by the young phenom, who did anything he wanted in the ring. Menard just couldn’t get anything going never got into rhythm and didn’t have any answers for anything Haney did. By the end of the ninth round Menard’s corner had seen enough stopping the bout, giving Haney the TKO victory.
Devin Haney showed up and showed out, showing a lot of maturity in the ring and just about anything he did worked. He slowly broke down Menard both mentally and physically. The sky’s the limit for a young man that showed great promised.
